Description
|
Galvanized steel coil is mild steel with a coating of zinc. The zinc protects the steel by providing cathodic protection to the exposed steel, so should the surface be damaged the zinc will corrode in preference to the steel.

The surface of galvanized materials has two main characteristics:
1. Texture: The texture of the surface refers to the surface profile or roughness of the galvanized layer. Typically, the surface of galvanized materials has a slightly rough texture due to the crystalline structure of the zinc coating formed during the galvanizing process. In some cases, the surface texture can be adjusted by varying the temperature or duration of the galvanizing process.
2. Visual Appearance: The visual appearance of galvanized materials will vary depending on factors such as the thickness of the galvanized coating, the type of steel used, and the specific galvanizing process used. In general, galvanized materials have a uniform silver-gray appearance, which can vary from matte to shiny depending on the finish of the galvanized material.
The surface of galvanized materials can also be further modified by various surface treatments or coatings. For example, the surface of galvanized materials can be passivated to seal the surface and increase its corrosion resistance. A top coat or paint can then be applied for extra protection or aesthetics.
The term "spangle" refers to the distinctive crystalline pattern seen on the surface of hot-dip galvanized steel. The spangle pattern is formed when liquid zinc solidifies on the surface of the steel during the galvanizing process.
Sequin patterns can range in size from small, uniform crystals to larger, irregular crystal structures. The size and appearance of the spangle pattern is influenced by factors such as the chemical composition of the steel substrate, the thickness of the galvanized layer, and the cooling rate of the galvanized steel material.
While the sequin pattern is visually appealing, it can also affect the properties of the galvanized steel material. For example, larger spangles may flake or flake more easily, while smaller spangles may result in a smoother surface finish.
To control the spangle pattern of galvanized steel materials, manufacturers can adjust the chemical composition of the galvanized layer, change the cooling rate during the galvanizing process, or post-treat the galvanized surface to change its appearance.
